The Akron-Canton area will get its first nonstop flight to Reagan National Airport, the prime airport for Washington, D.C.
The flight from Akron-Canton Airport will be a US Airways daily round trip on a 50-seat CRJ-200 aircraft starting Sunday, Jan. 25.
It will leave Akron-Canton at 6:20 a.m. and arrive in Washington at 7:38 a.m. The return will leave Washington at 7:59 p.m. and arrive at Akron-Canton at 9:21 p.m.
Northeast Ohio got the flight when US Airways fought off an attempt by Midwest Airlines to seize coveted gate slots at Reagan National.
Midwest, a discount carrier, argued that US Airways already operated a lot of flights into Reagan National and had not pledged to offer low fares.
But the Department of Transportation determined that Akron-Canton met one of the key criteria for winning a pair of takeoff and landing slots: "providing air transportation to a community without existing nonstop service" to Reagan National.
