RESTON, VIRGINIA - Serco Inc., a provider of professional, technology, and management services to the federal government, announced today that the Company has been awarded the Willie F. Card Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Contract Tower Service Award for delivering air traffic control safety and service excellence at the San Luis Obispo Tower in California.
Serco has been awarded this honor five of the past seven years. San Luis Obispo Airport has nearly 90,000 aircraft operations per year. Serco has provided operational error-free service to the airport and local flying community since 1995. Additionally, employees at the tower have reached out to the local flying community to promote safety and establish a working relationship with the users by promoting pilot tours of the tower, participating in pilot safety seminars and personally becoming very active in charitable work in their local community.
Out of the pool of 242 FAA Contract Towers, San Luis Obispo Tower was co-awarded this prestigious national award with the air traffic control tower at Galveston, Texas. 'We could not be prouder of the accomplishments of this team,' said Mike Henry, Serco's Vice President of Transportation. 'They exemplify Willie Card's vision for the FCT Program, and Serco's commitment to provide safe, customer oriented services to the aviation community.'
As the FAA Contract Tower Branch Manager from 1998 to 2002, Willie Card created an environment in which the competing interests of the FAA, the ATC contractors, airports, and organizations like American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and the United States Contract Tower Association (USCTA) came together to form a unique and lasting partnership with the common goal of providing the very best air traffic control services. AAAE and USCTA present the award annually in memory of Willie Card who unexpectedly passed away in 2002.
Previous Serco winners of the Willie F. Card Award include Lewiston, ID (2003), Phoenix-Mesa Gateway, AZ (2004), Jackson Hole, WY (2005) and Goodyear, AZ (2008). Nominations for the award are reviewed by a panel of judges consisting of one representative from the FAA Contract Tower Program Office in Washington, D.C., USCTA Policy Board, National Business Aviation Association, National Air Transportation Association and the Regional Airline Association.
