New passenger screening system to be used in JFK Airport
Posted: July 22nd, 2008

American Science and Engineering Inc (NASDAQ: ASEI), an x-ray detection technology company, has announced that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will be using its SmartCheck Z Backscatter Personnel Screening System.

The TSA will be using the system in John F. Kennedy International Airport as part of its next pilot text of passenger screening systems.

The system, which is used as an alternative to pat-downs by airport security staff, provides an outline of passengers' bodies, with potential threats visible. It does not show facial features.

The SmartCheck Z Backscatter Personnel Screening System was piloted at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in February 2007. It is currently installed in JFK, Los Angeles International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
