Officials of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will visit Myanmar early next year to inspect the safety status of the country's air transport at Yangon International Airport, sources with the civil aviation department said on Sunday.
The ICAO inspection will be the second after it introduced during its first visit rules and regulations to be observed by the Myanmar civil aviation authorities to ensure safe transport.
The Myanmar civil aviation authorities said it is following ICAO rules and regulations to win confidence from international airlines.
Meanwhile, the new terminal of the Yangon International Airport has been operating well since it was put into service in May 2007 after about four years' renovation, aimed at improving its handling of international flights.
Its handling capacity has reached for 900 outgoing and 900 incoming passengers simultaneously in an hour, or 2.7 million passengers a year, according to the department.
The new renovated airport was designed by Singapore's CPG Airport Consultant Co. Ltd and jointly built by the department and the private Asia World Co. Ltd since 2003.
