ICAO ASKS INDIA TO ADDRESS I'STRUCTURE, FLIGHT SAFETY ISSUES
Posted: October 2nd, 2009

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Thursday said India would soon witness an upswing in air traffic and wanted the government to address infrastructure and flight safety issues urgently.

Expressing these views, ICAO President Roberto Kobeh Gonzalez said he was optimistic that with the growing GDP rate, India would come back on a fast track soon.

"India is the fastest growing aviation market and has great potential for future growth," he said during a meeting with Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel here.

Gonzalez, who arrived on a three days visit at the invitation of Ministry of Civil Aviation, also held talks with Civil Aviation Secretary M M Nambiar, Director General Civil Aviation Nasim Zaidi, Airports Authority of India Chairman V P Agarwal and other senior officials.

A Ministry spokesperson said Gonzalez and the Minister exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and issues facing the global, regional and national civil aviation sectors.

At the meeting, the ICAO chief said the global civil aviation sector was passing through a recession and recording negative growth.
