Ft. Wayne board to forgive $170,000 it's owed; Bulk of write-off tied to shutdown of Kitty Hawk
Posted: July 8th, 2008

Kitty Hawk-related charges made up the bulk of almost $170,000 the local airport authority was asked to write off Monday.

The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority board members approved the write-off for accounting purposes.

Seven businesses and individuals owe the authority $169,961, and each account is at least six months old.

Airport staff will continue working to collect the money owed to the authority. However, in some cases the money won't likely ever be collected, airport director Tory Richardson said.

The bulk of that debt stemmed from Kitty Hawk Air Cargo. The Dallas-based freight transportation company owes $162,773 to the authority for landing fees, fingerprinting costs related to staff ID cards and other fees.

Those costs represent about one month's worth of charges and stem from the period just before the company filed for bankruptcy in October, Richardson said.
