FedEx to Withdraw from Central Japan Airport
Posted: December 1st, 2008

The World's largest air cargo firm FedEx Corp. will no longer use Central Japan International Airport from March 29 next year, according to airport sources.

The U.S. air cargo carrier currently operates five flights a week from Narita International Airport near Tokyo to Shanghai via the central Japan airport, located in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture.

The withdrawal of FedEx will give an additional blow to Central Japan International Airport, which already has been suffering from a fall in cargo and passenger flight demand and is expected to log the first net loss since its opening in 2005, the sources said.

At the airport, the total number of international cargo flights has decreased to 25 per week from a peak of 54 in summer 2006.
