Albany airport receives $1M for new equipment
Posted: August 28th, 2008

COLONIE - Albany International Airport will receive nearly $1 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation for a new firetruck and snowthrower, U.S. Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer announced Tuesday.

The money will pay 95 percent of the cost of the equipment, with the airport and state providing the other 5 percent. Airport spokesman Doug Myers said the snowthrower will cost $528,000. The fire truck, a pumper, will cost $460,000.

The snowthrower will be able to clear a 10-foot swath, throwing snow a minimum of 150 feet while traveling as fast as 50 mph.
