The St. Lucie County International Airport's new slogan, "Best is West of U.S. 1," is off to a flying start to help reduce airport noise over nearby neighborhoods and residential complaints.
Student pilots who practice training maneuvers at the Fort Pierce airport are encouraged to turn before reaching U.S. 1 on takeoff.
The anti-noise slogan appears on all correspondence to flight schools and visiting pilots as part of the airport's effort to promote the voluntary noise abatement procedures. The procedures limit touch-and-go maneuvers from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. The maneuvers are banned Sundays and holidays.
Pilots, however, can perform these training operations any time if west of U.S. 1.
