ON A TAKEOFF ROLL ; Bustling McCollum Field in Cobb continues to expand
Posted: July 8th, 2008

One of Georgia's busiest general aviation airports is getting a few more spaces for aircraft.
McCollum Field, which is owned by Cobb County, is reconfiguring some of its secure hangars to add about 30 spaces to its 260.
Plus, it will add exterior space to tie down an additional 200 aircraft in the next three years.
The work is the latest expansion of the north Cobb airport. About $30 million has been spent over the past 15 years.
A charter service that operates out of the airport, FlightWorks, plans to spend about $8 million on a 70,000-square-foot hangar in the next year.
"It's a big difference from when I came in 1993 and my office was in the back bedroom of an old house," airport manager Karl Von Hagel said.
