Fortune Magazine Agrees With Me!
Well, it’s sorta doubtful that Fortune actually set out to agree with me, or even knows it agrees with me, but I’m taking full credit for it. What’s more, I said it before Fortune did. The more I think of it, the more it kinda, sorta, maybe, seems like maybe Fortune got the idea from my blog. (I don’t believe that, but it is fun to think about it.)
A few weeks ago this blog lamented the fact that Social Security and Medicare are our biggest economic problem and none of the major candidates is addressing, or even discussing, this problem.
Now hear this, the March 17, 2008 issue of Fortune has an article titled “The $34 Trillion Problem.” The subtitle is “Medicare is poised to wreak havoc on the economy. And our presidential candidates are avoiding the issue.” Author Geoff Colvin goes on to comment that this problem cannot be solved easily.
Surely he will be glad to know that I agree with him.

William–
It is indeed a mess. What I can’t understand is how anyone would look at how the guvment has run these things into bankruptcy and then still believe we should now give the guvment more money to run more things.
Thanx for writing.

It is a silent mess bordering on catastrophe. Programs that were expanded since their inception to include retirement income and flanking universal health care. However, there is a way not to pay into social security: become a mailman or in some cases a farmer. Lets keep the politicians focusing on these problems and keep Aviation out of their sights!

The only way to get out of Medicare is to refuse to accept the benefits AFTER you have paid for them. You cannot get out of paying INTO the program. But I was talking about the horrible mess Medicare is, and the silence of the leading candidates about that mess.
Thanks for writing,
Ralph Hood
It’s really very simple, everyone wants ‘first class care” but no wants to pay for it.BTW, I and most folks, don’t wont to pay for a crack dealer’s heart transplant. We would much prefer to spend our money elsewhere. If you don’t like Medicare, you can get out at any time…last time I checked. Oscar(CM)
